2008 奥运会作文英语作文 : 申奥的得与失 Bidding for Olympics: Gain or Lost?
Bidding for and hosting the Olympics successfully is, perhaps, the ultimate glory for a city. However, before transforming
the dream into reality, the benefits and drawbacks of biddingfor the Olympics shouldbe weighed careful ly.
Hosting the Olympics surely would bring about much gain to a city. Boom of the local economy, more jobs, and the possibility
of generating income all sound extremely attractive to the municipal government. At the same time, better infrastructure,
cleaner environment, enjoying the spectacular gamewithhundreds of sports elites andentertainment stars, and the
opportunity of contacting peoplefromall overtheworldalso seemexciting tothe citizens. Besides, thebidding wi l l
definitely promote the patriotic emotion and pride, as well as the moral behavior in local people. In most cases, bidding for
the Olympics is well supported by both the public and the central government.
Unfortunately, this is not the entire view of the pretty picture. If looking from another angle, the Olympic bid might bring
about some side-effects to a city.
First of all, the environmental impacts, including the increasing exhaust fumes of cars, more pressure on water resources,
huge amount of wasted leaflets and othermaterials used forpublic activities, aremostprobablyneglected. In order to
broaden the streets, some trees may have to be cut. Near the construction site, the tiny dust may linger in the air for a
long time. Reduction of farmland may be caused by the need of setting up new sports centre or accommodation facilities. These
environmental consequences can be especially serious in a resource-limited and densely-populated city in a third-world
country.
Besides, if talking about the economic benefit, it shouldnot be forgotten that a quickboosting may lead tobubble growth,
which may easily crash. If not well managed and organized, the big event may not be so profitable, and the new faci l ities may
be forever empty after the games. Yes, there have been cases that host cities ended up with enormous debts.
Finally, let’ s think about the low-income groups in the city. What will they get from the Olympics bidding?More tax, more
fees, more expensive property prices, and higher cost of living. These definitely are not good news for them.
To bid or not to, this is a question. It is up to the choice of the municipal government, and the local public. After the
decision, what they can do is to make the most of the benefit, and reduce the drawbacks to the least.

Ladies and gentlemen:
Good morning!
Today, my speech is “I am the part of the Green Olympics” .
The Olympic Games will be held in our country in two years’ time. “Green Olympics” is one of the Three Themes of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The Beijinggovernmenthadmadea great effort inorder to protect the environment, buildmore “Green project” , keep theecological balance, push the recycling economy, and protects the water resource.
For example , the government will be building new hotels ,an immense stadium, and a new Olympic-standard swimming pool ,andmorebuildingwill bebuilt outside the capital andwill be called ‘Olympic City’ .My home is there , so I am looking forward to the Olympic.
As a Chinese, as aBeijinghigh school student,we shouldplayanactive role in the actions aimedat the realizationof GreenOlympics. So we should start it from ourselves, our family, our friends and other people around us.
Though our country is very beautiful and modern now, it has any problem . I always see cars producing smog on the street. And in the bathrooms, I see students leaving the water tap on afterusing them. Not only the young people, but also the elderly ones throw things everywhere without thinking, it' s wrong, even in abeautiful park. These things are takingplace every day, even in modern cities like Beijing.
So, let' s begin to act! First of all, start with the things around you. Don' t throw rubbish onto the road. Don' t talk loudlywhen you are outdoors. Turn off the water tap after using it. Go to school by bike or by bus instead of by private car. Save your pocket money and contribute to environmental protection organizations. After washing the clothes, we can use it to flash the toilet, and we can stop somebody from demolishing environment. For me,I always pickup rubbish and throw it into a trashcan. I collect waste paper orbottles for recycling. I plant more trees and flowers, and so on. We should start from every littlethingaroundus to trulyrealize the “Green Olympic” . We're grateful, because the emblem of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games is a precious treasure dedicated to the Olympic Movement by the people of China. Express the spirit of Olympic, publicize the theme of "Green Olympic", and let Beijingreallyreaches the "GreenOlympic" in2008.This isthe responsibilityof anyonewho lovespeace. Andit isalso theresponsibility of our Beijinghigh school students!
Welcome to Beijing! Thank you!

Creating a brilliant Beijing: Time for Action
Ladies and Gentlemen:
My topic is on creating a brilliant Beijing:Time for Action
2008 is such a common number, but many Chinese will get excited when they mention it. Howcan a commonnumber attract suchastrange fascination? The answer is simpleand obvious: the twenty-ninthOlympic Game will be held in Beijing in the year 2008. At that time, the whole world will focus their attentions on Beijing. As the hostess, Beijingwill showherbeauty to the guests from all over the world.
The Beijing Olympic Games will be a Green Olympic, a high technology Olympic, and a people' s Olympic. Among them, a Green Olympic is the most important concept. It will show the world the determination, the ability, and the confidence of the Chinese people and their government to successfully hold a Green Olympic. To achieve such a goal, however,it needs a lot of hard work.
As middle school students in Beijing, weshould take on more responsibilities for our capital city' s environment. Any action we take will affect the appearance of the city. Therefore, we should start with ourselves(act now) and make every possible effort. But how? You may ask.
